BOSTON – The Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center, Inc (BCNC) announces receipt of a two-year grant award in the amount of $200,000 from The Kresge Foundation to support its work as the organization strengthens its family-centered approach to services. BCNC believes that working with the entire family in the context of the community they live in is essential if organizations are to tackle the persistent health, educational, and economic issues. The grant will support activities that increase outreach and coordination of services for families, expansion of case management services, engage stakeholders, and promote staff development.
As a multiservice organization, BCNC strives to undertake an integrated family-centered approach to support the entire family through exemplary programs in child care, youth development, adult education, recreation, arts & enrichment, and family services. Recognizing that families and individuals do not face life challenges one at a time, BCNC offers access to a comprehensive array of services that build on a person’s strengths and offer support for their vulnerabilities. This holistic approach recognizes a participant as part of a family and that a family is part of a community, which is particularly important for the largely immigrant and low income constituents BCNC serves.
The Kresge Foundation is a $3 billion private, national foundation that works to expand opportunities in America’s cities through grantmaking and investing in arts and culture, education, environment, health, human services and community development efforts in Detroit. The grant comes from its Human Services Program, which seeks to strengthen multiservice human services organizations that improve the quality of life and economic security of low-income people.
“We’re very pleased to support a multiservice agency like the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center in its effort to support individual and families on the path to self-sufficient, self-determined lives,” says Guillermina Hernández-Gallegos, who directs Kresge’s Human Services Program. “BCNC is working to better serve its community and has a clear strategy for enhancing its effectiveness, which is increasingly important in times of uncertainty and financial constraints.”
